The Council of Cunit and Layetana Developments call a tender relating the new Pla del Castell park

Cunit, 25th September 2007. The Town Council of Cunit and Layetana Developments- developer of the future dwellings project– have called a tender by inviting three landscape architecture teams: Bet Figueras, Claudi Aguiló and data AE and Maria Isabel Bennassar. Such teams have been requested to prepare a draft of “Pla de Castell” urban park, which will become an important leisure and meeting point for the people of Cunit.

The park is included in the Southern Partial Urban Plan 1 “Urban Plan of Cunit” developed by the Town Council which will turn today’s farming land into an urban area that will hold a residential area, a shopping area and public infrastructure, in addition to a large park that will take up 42,654 m2. The overall investment to build the park will be in the range of € 4 million.

The main achievement sought with the creation of this park is that it becomes a true pole of attraction for citizens. It will be designed under general sustainability criteria, especially relating water management and energy efficiency.

The project requirements included in the tender rules respond to the proposals made by the people of Cunit through a citizen participation programme which set the following use for the park: open-air sports facilities, a strolling area for pedestrians and cyclists, a picnic area and also an area for concerts, plays, fairs and markets and open-air cinema.

In addition to the basic features of the landscape design, the project must develop and explain some characteristics related to plant species, urban furniture, earth moving, irrigation, water recycling as well as park maintenance actions.
