Claudi Aguiló Riu Arquitects and dataAE will create the new urban park “Pla de Castell” in Cunit
Cunit, 14th December 2007. The tender to design the new urban park “Pla de Castell” has been awarded to the project that was jointly submitted by Claudi Aguiló Riu Arquitects and dataAE. Their project was the one that best met the water management and sustainability requirements set and, in addition, the one that best responded to the proposals made by the people of Cunit in the citizen participation programme fostered by the Town Council.
A new urban park in Cunit
The park is included in the Southern Partial Urban Plan 1 “Urban Plan of Cunit” developed by the Town Council which will turn today’s farming land into an urban area that will hold a residential area, a shopping area and public infrastructure, in addition to a large park that will take up 42,653 m2. The overall investment to build the park will be in the range of € 4 million.
The winning project
The park designed by Claudi Aguiló and data AE responds to a new sustainability concept in which environmental and energy requirements are taken into account. The transit from natural elements to artificial ones provides the park with its own identity. The project has been developed by turning the park into a public area that:
• CONSOLIDATES: an area with a capacity to unite and connect the flows generated in the town and crossing it
• ENLIGHTENS: an area used as a stage for all kinds of cultural activities and various events
• UNIVERSALISES: an area for all with a capacity to generate different systems of life and places that are suitable in a different way according to the needs of each user
• INNOVATES: an area that provides new perspectives to the parks tradition
• INTEGRATES: an area with sustainable criteria upon conception
